April, May, November and December are often rather quiet here in the Luangwa Valley. We have never quite understood this as these months mark the turning points of the seasons in the Luangwa and for true connoisseurs of the bush – it’s a great time to be here.

Perhaps it’s quieter in terms of visitors because the bushcamps are closed then, or perhaps travellers are discouraged by the chance of occasional inclement weather. Whatever the reasons – we want to encourage more travellers to share this well kept secret!

April brings an end to the rains, the river starts to drop and the wildlife begins to migrate back to the Luangwa River Valley from the higher ground. It’s an exceptionally good time for wild dog. The bush is still lush and green and with May arrive the first signs of the cooler weather; male impala are resplendent and noisy as the rutting season comes to a testosterone filled finish and the bush starts to die back allowing us access once more to the remoter walking areas.

By November and December, after the stifling heat and dust of the dry season, the welcome rains are well underway and the occasional soaking on a game drive is more than compensated for by the glory of the mopane in new leaf, the almost fluorescent green of new grass everywhere, the arrival of countless migrating birds, the huge herds of young impala and the sinister ever-presence of predators making the most of this time of plenty before their hunting grounds are inundated.

For a stay of 5 nights minimum at Kapani in April, May, November and December (except Christmas and New Year – sorry!) – we are offering a rate of just $1300 (RACK) per person INCLUDING – all meals and drinks, all game viewing activities, airport transfers, national park fees, LCCF, laundry and taxes – No Single Supplement!
