What’s on in Wanaka?
We have recently received the summer newsletter from our friends at Lake Wanaka Tourism and we would like to share with you all the amazing things going on there…….
Kia ora from a sunny Lake Wanaka!
There’s a certain point when you know your body’s reached its perfect equilibrium – when you’re so relaxed your heart’s beating in soft samba time; your skin’s tingling from a hard day chilling out in the summer sun; you can taste the tingle of each bubble in that cold beer you’ve been fantasising about all day, and the aroma of your freshly-cooked pizza in the fresh air embraces the sight of a sunset coloured just the way you like it… You’d think there should be a phrase for it.
And we reckon there is. It’s “Summer in Wanaka”.
Lake Wanaka and The Hobbit
Lake Wanaka has been included by Air New Zealand in its December edition of its Kia Ora magazine as one of the top 10 locations used for the filming of The Hobbit. Wanaka provides a backdrop to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey as the dwarves and Bilbo journey from Rivendell to the Misty Mountains. The film features panoramic views from Treble Cone ski area across to Mount Aspiring. Rippon Vineyard & Winery on the shores of Lake Wanaka was also used in Tourism New Zealand’s latest “Middle Earth” TV commercial and was described as the place “where wizards turn water into wine”!
There are several Wanaka activity operators which are planning to incorporate local Hobbit film locations into their tours in due course… More information will be available in the next newsletter update.
