Whales and Lemurs

Whale watching has become one of the sort after holidays or part of peoples’ adventure while away on holidays. Perhaps one of the least known areas for this activities is the south eastern coast of Madagascar during their winter months – June to September. At this time large numbers of hump back whales travel up from the Antarctic to the sheltered waters off Magagascar.
They are here to calve, nurse their young and also to breed. The latter activity brings about the spectacular courtship rituals, giving us humans a chance to see these huge but graceful animals breaching and generally showing off.
Add in the chance to do some lemur sighting and stays in barefoot luxury accommodation, with excellent food and drink in a truly remote location and you have a romantic holiday with a difference.
Start with an day in the capital Antananarivo (Tana) before flying down to Fort Dauphin and a stay in the forest for lemur tracking and sighting. This is followed by the remainder of your time staying in a beach and rain forest lodge. It is from here that you can go whale watching, at the right time of the year, snorkelling over pristine coral reefs, kayaking among the mangroves swamps, forest walks and night walks. Or just laze on the beach and soak up the sun, sea and beautiful location.
This 8 day holiday is priced from £1845 per person (excluding flights) – great value for a spectacular, romantic holiday.
