The Blue Train of South Africa
The Blue Train © SA Tourism
We have just been shown the details of the revamped Blue trains and they are truly five star luxury on wheels. In addition, new technology incorporated into the new revamped engines, including state of the art suspension systems, ensures that you have the smoothest train journey in the world.
Your personal butler greets you as you board and your luggage will be waiting you in either a De Luxe or Luxury suite depending on your choice. The latter suite is a metre longer and has a private full sized bath, where as the De Luxe offers a choice of either a private shower or three-quarter bath.
The Blue Train prides itself for its fine cuisine which is accompanied with a wide selection of South African wines. Add in the beauty of the scenery viewed through giant windows (even in your suite) as you travel and a choice of two lounge cars (one for smokers), and you have a journey to remember. Depending on the direction of your travel, you have either an off-train excursion to the Kimberley Hole Diamond mine or Matjiesfontein.
There are 2 trains travelling to and from Pretoria and Cape Town with departures weekly. Your trip includes all meals, drinks and the off-train excursion but does exclude French champagne, caviar and telephone calls outside the train.
This is an excellent alternative to flying to and from the Cape to Johannesburg area and the wildlife areas and should be considered for your tour of South Africa.
To add even more value to the journey, your ticket now includes a complimentary night either in the Herbert Baker Boutique Hotel in Pretoria or the Taj Hotel Cape Town. This makes for an excellent start or finish to a stunning train journey.
