Newfoundland and Labrador…
This is a destination for those of you that love the great outdoors. With some of the best walking trails in North America, rugged and stunning scenery, quaint fishing villages and some amazing vistas you will be spoilt for choice in Newfoundland and Labrador. Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, should be on your list of places to visit and walk. Use part of your days here to take the boat tour to Western Brook Pond – a cruise through gorges and fjords that tower up to 600 metres above you.
Taking to the sea by kayak, tour boat or, for the truly intrepid, getting in to the sea with wetsuit on to seek out the 22 species of whales and dolphins including the rare Blue and Sperm whales. There are millions of birds nesting along the coast edge – enough to keep any twitcher happy. In the north of Newfoundland you will have the chance to stay in the lighthouse-keepers’ residence on Quirpon Island. Your time here will be spent looking out for whales and icebergs from the shore or for a closer view take out a sea kayak
While you are here, consider visiting the remains of the 1,000 year old Viking Village at L’Anse aux Meadows , another Unesco World Heritage Site, the first time Europeans set foot on North America.
Planning your time here is imperative to make the most of all that Newfoundland and Labrador have to offer.
