New York New York!

So great they named it twice! During our recent holiday, my husband and I spent time in New York City – our first visit to the Big Apple! Along with the traditional sights of the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Times Square and of course beautiful Central Park, we also decided to do something a little different, and very typically American – we went to a baseball game.
The Citifield Stadium is home to the New York Mets, and is easily accessed by subway from Times Square, Manhattan. From the station, a short walk brings you to the stadium itself. Whilst we weren’t entirely sure of the rules of the game, we soon got into it and were cheering along with the rest of the crowds! Taking in a baseball game is possible in a huge number of US cities, and tickets can be reasonably priced too.
Another highlight of our visit to New York City was to go to the 9/11 Memorial – the beautiful waterfalls surrounded by trees make a fitting tribute and quiet place to contemplate. An accompanying museum is due to open in 2014, and will be well worth visiting.
Along with the ‘Top of the Rock’, the Brooklyn Bridge, a sightseeing Circle Line Cruise and of course a little shopping, we certainly made the most of our time in the city that never sleeps. There is so much to see and do in New York that it can be tricky to fit it all in – we can help you to plan your stay and provide hints and tips based on our own experiences.
New York City can also be easily combined with other parts of the country – explore New York State where highlights include Long Island, the Hudson Valley, the Finger Lakes and Niagara Falls, or head to New England and explore Boston, Cape Cod, Maine, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the Green Mountains of Vermont, Connecticut and Rhode Island. New York is so easily connected to places further afield by air and by rail that you could continue your USA holiday in almost endless destinations!
