Honeymoon from Heaven
Today we received a blog from the wonderful Tijara Beach Resort, it is written by one of their clients, a honeymoon couple and it just about sums up Tijara and their wonderful resort, so we wanted to share this with you too……………..
‘The second we arrived at Tijara, we could feel our minds and bodies relaxing as we were soothed by the warm morning sun and the smell of the ocean. As we pulled into the gate, we were met by the owners Ian and Larissa and their gorgeous children, who welcomed us with an ice cold drink, a fragrant face cloth and one of the most stunning views we had seen in a long time – a huge exotic garden, just four cottages well spaced out and the azure water of the Indian Ocean beyond.
The cottage was far bigger than we had imagined with a gigantic Swahili bed and a stunning en-suite bathroom equipped with a lovely big bath – in which we enjoyed several stunning sunsets while sipping chilled champagne, heavenly bliss – double showers and double wash basins. The best part though was that both rooms opened up onto a private deck furnished with comfortable Swahili loungers from which we could really savour the view.
During our stay we were pampered beyond belief and everything they did truly surpassed our expectations with their personal touch, warm hospitality and breath-taking surroundings.
We quickly swapped our jeans and trainers for swimming costumes and flip flops and headed off to explore all the other amazing things that we would enjoy during our stay. But first, a quick discussion with the chef regarding our lunch and dinner requests. This came as quite a surprise as we had expected to be served a set menu each day, but of course Tijara does everything in style, and each meal was more sumptuous than the last with every dish imaginable prepared with the freshest ingredients generally straight from the sea or the garden.
At the heart of Tijara lies an inviting fresh water swimming pool where we spent a great deal of time just reading, soaking up the sun and enjoying a private massage and the best part is that it is never crowded. Of course after a while of sitting around and eating far too much, we started to feel a bit restless and needed something a bit more physical and adventurous to do. Tijara has direct access to its very own private beach where we enjoyed several long walks on the beautiful coral reef and snorkelling in the natural pools swimming with the most incredible marine life.
Some of the amazing excursions during the trip included an exciting day in the Shimba Hills on a game drive (a beautiful forested game park near the coast with great though elusive wildlife); a morning spent kite surfing, a sport my husband is passionate about (and a kite surfing lesson for me … exhausting but exciting!); one of the most romantic trips was a ride on a typical Kenyan dhow (a wooden Arabic trading boat); A more cultural trip we decided to go on was into Old Town Mombasa and Fort Jesus (an UNESCO World Heritage Site) where we immersed ourselves in the Swahili culture and local history. Each of these trips were within half an hour away in the comfortable air-con vehicle, so very easy indeed.
From the moment we arrived at Tijara we knew that we would get exactly what we had been looking for – luxury, tranquillity and romance – but on our final day we realized that we had gotten so much more than we had anticipated. During our stay, the Tijara team understood exactly what we needed and responded to our every desire every single day.
