Did you see……..
Did you watch “the Street that gave up everything” on BBC1 on the 16th May? It was only when the Council services were taken away that you started to appreciate what a Council does for you and how uncomfortable life can be all of a sudden.
A phone call today by a non customer asking if they needed a passport for a trip to the Continent got me thinking. The first reply was – why not ask the airline that you have booked with? The reply was that she could not find a number or contact details anywhere on the website. The temptation was there!
This got me thinking about travel and the way people book holidays now that the internet has made it easier. Just like the services offered by your local council, the benefits of booking through a tour operator only become evident when you need them. Those caught out by ash clouds, earthquakes, strikes and tsunamis recently suddenly found having someone at home co-ordinating efforts to get them home, re-organise itineraries and had contacts on the ground to make things happen was worth so much.
It is at moments like these that a knowing, helping hand is worth more than anything.
