Region: South Australia
Most people will recognise Adelaide as the gateway city to South Australia, many will know it as the crossroads of the two great Australian Rail journey’s – the Ghan and the Indian Pacific. Almost without exception, wine-lovers will have sampled the delights of the excellent wines from the Barossa Valley and the Adelaide Hills. But how many know of the Gawler Ranges and of Lake Gairdner, of Wilpena Pound and the Flinders Ranges, of Kangaroo Island and the expedition cruises of the Murray River. South Australia should not simply be seen as a railway junction, but as a holiday destination in its own right.
