A wonderful era of rail travel…………
I received two unconnected emails this morning reminding me of the variety of journey’s one can do by rail, and it set me thinking about each and every one of our favourite destinations, and the part rail travel has to play.
Alaska Railroad travels through some of the most beautiful and remote scenery that North America has to offer, but its contemporary – Amtrak – in the lower 48 also has some iconic journeys from short inter-city hops to epic cross continent routes.
And before we leave the northern hemisphere, Via rail and Rocky Mountaineer through Canada offer some spectacular opportunities.
Go south of the equator, and the Edwardian elegance of Rovos Rail in Southern Africa beckons – if you are on our mailing list, you are about to receive our Spring Newsletter, which contains a supplement on Rovos Rail.
Moving on to Australia and New Zealand, and the Indian Pacific between Sydney and Perth and the Ghan between Adelaide and Darwin must feature high on the list of favourites, whilst the Tranz-Coastal and Tranz-Alpine in New Zealand never fail to delight.
